Great article -- very thought-provoking. It's easy to see how the reductionist thinking very common in the field of software engineering could lead to these designs ... and how the predominantly-male makeup of the discipline could lead to nobody noticing that a majority of users may be underserved by the results. I wonder if there are similar differences in how people use search?
